Frequently asked questions

  • What is hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing is a full antenatal education course, with an emphasis on positivity and fear reduction. My hypnobirthing course teaches evidence-based and factual information about birth. You will learn how the mind and body are connected and why this is so important in labour and the birth of your baby. You will complete my hypnobirthing course equipped with techniques to practise in the lead up to and use throughout labour and birth. You will learn tools to feel in control, ask questions and make informed decisions, preparing you for a positive birth experience whichever way you birth your baby.

  • What will I learn on your hypnobirthing course?

Throughout the sessions we will cover: - The physiology of birth: how your muscles and hormones work - How the mind and body are connected, and why this is important in labour - Techniques to put into practise in the lead up to and throughout the birth of your baby - Tools to remain in control, ask questions and make informed decisions - How your birth partner can support you.

  • How long is your course?

The full course is 8-hours long. It runs over four x 2-hour sessions.

  • How much is your course?

A group course is £275. A private course is £385.

  • What is included in the course fee?

Alongside the full 8-hour hypnobirthing course, you will receive a course pack which includes: - A printed course companion - A copy of ‘Your Baby, Your Birth’ by Hollie de Cruz - 3 MP3s to listen to in the lead up to your baby’s birth My support will be on going via email and calls, as and when needed, until your baby is born.

  • What method of hypnobirthing do you teach?

As of May 2021, I will be teaching The YesMum Birth Project (YMBP) course syllabus. This allows flexibility to deliver my course alongside principles and values that are most important to me at the heart of all my teaching. I originally trained in the Katherine Graves Hypnobirthing (KGH) Royal College of midwives accredited course. KGH is the original UK hypnobirthing course.

  • What are your values when teaching your courses?

I wish for you to complete a course feeling calm, in control (and hopefully even excited) about your baby’s birth. I feel strongly that preparation is key. I wish for you to learn techniques and tools that prepare you for a positive birth experience whichever way you birth your baby. I also feel strongly that my courses are as accessible to as many people as possible, see below.

  • How do you make your courses as accessible as possible?

I offer my courses in spoken English and sign language (BSL and SSE). I can offer private classes with flexible dates, times and locations to suit you, as well as my more affordable group classes at set times and locations. I also offer payment plans if needed.

  • Where do you teach?

I teach in-person group courses at Beaulieu Community Centre, Chelmsford. My group courses in British Sign Language are delivered via Zoom. Private courses are arranged between us at a mutually convenient location or via Zoom. I can teach in person in and around Chelmsford, Essex as well as in Norwich, Norfolk.

  • Should my birth partner come along to a hypnobirthing course?

I strongly encourage your birth partner to attend the course with you. Your birth partner plays a huge role in the lead up to and during your baby’s birth. My hypnobirthing course will equip them with all the knowledge and techniques they need to be able to do this and be your greatest support! Having said that, if you are not having a birth partner or they cannot attend the course for any reason, you will, of course, be most welcome to attend by yourself.

  • When should I start a hypnobirthing course?

I recommend beginning a course any time after 20 weeks of pregnancy. If you are further along, do not worry, it is never too late to start!

  • What if I am still unsure if I should take a course?

I offer free mini taster sessions over Zoom for you to ‘get a feel’ of what a course is like and for you to ask any questions you have. This also allows us to get to know each other first; it is important to me that you feel comfortable and choose the right person to support you through your hypnobirthing journey. Please email me to enquire further.

  • What happens after the course?

Taking the course is just the very beginning of your hypnobirthing journey. You will complete this with plenty of tools and techniques to put into practise in the lead up to your baby’s birth. This is a really important part of hypnobirthing. My support also continues all the way up until the birth of your baby, as and when needed, by email and phone.

  • How do I book onto your hypnobirthing course?

To book onto one of my hypnobirthing courses you can email me at calmmamahypnobirthing@gmail.com or call me on 07740797337.
